The Team Meeting: Updates, Risks, and Decisions

Meetings run on ritual phrases: updates ('On track, with one risk'), flags ('I want to raise…'), and decisions ('So we're agreed…'). Karen leads her product team's Monday meeting — short, honest, and it ends with owners and dates. · B2 · Role-Play

How to practice: first listen to the whole dialogue. Then play BOTH roles out loud — or take one role and answer the other from memory. When it flows, record the full dialogue below.

Karen Morning, everyone. Quick one today — thirty minutes, three topics. Dave, you're first: launch status.

Dave Mostly on track. The demo build is ready; the payment bug from Thursday is fixed and tested. One risk: the app-store review could take up to a week, and we can't control that.

Karen Noted. Priya — design?

Priya The new checkout flow tested well — nine out of ten users finished without help. I do want to raise one thing: users keep missing the 'exciting changes' note. I'd like to A/B test a bolder version.

Karen How long would that take?

Priya Two days to build, a week of data. It delays the announcement email, not the launch.

Karen Then do it — with Dave's old checkout as backup if the numbers dip. Dave, okay with the extra build?

Dave Fine by me. I'd rather ship the version people understand.

Karen Good. So, decisions: Priya runs the test, Dave keeps the old flow ready, I move the announcement to next Tuesday. Owners, dates — done. Anything else? … Then let's go build it.

Your task

Lead a 2-minute meeting out loud, playing all parts or just the lead: open with the agenda + time box ('Thirty minutes, three topics'), take two updates, surface one risk, and close with the ritual: decisions + owners + dates, out loud, in one breath of summary.
