🎯 Objective. Describe your job or your studies clearly: what you do, where, your daily tasks, what you like, and what is difficult.

1 · Learn

Job descriptions follow a reliable pattern: the job title and place, three main tasks (use present simple: I help, I make, I teach), the people you work with, and finally your honest opinion — one thing you like and one thing that is hard.

Use “I work as a…” or “I am a…” for the title, and “I work in…” for the place or company type: in a hospital, in an office, at a school. Students: “I study…” + subject, and “I am in my second year” for progress.

2 · See an Example

I Work as a Nurse

I work as a nurse in a big hospital in Houston. I work with a team of doctors and nurses, and we take care of sick people. My day starts at 7 a.m. I check my patients, give them medicine, and talk to their families.

The work is hard, and the days are long, but I love helping people. When a patient smiles and says thank you, I forget that I am tired.

3 · Analyze the Example

Useful Vocabulary

take care of — to look after someone or something

Nurses take care of patients.

team — a group of people who work together

I work with a great team.

patient — a sick person in a hospital

The patient feels better today.

tired — needing rest

After a long day, I am tired.

subject — something you study: math, history, English

My favorite subject is biology.

Useful Expressions

Common Mistakes

✗ I work like a nurse.

✓ I work as a nurse. / I am a nurse.

Jobs use “as” (I work as a nurse), never “like”.

✗ I am student in a university and I am studying the medicine.

✓ I am a student at a university, and I study medicine.

“A student”, “at a university”, and subjects like medicine take no “the”.

✗ My job is very good and nice and I like.

✓ My job is difficult but rewarding: I help people get better every day.

Say what you DO and why it matters — tasks over empty praise.

    See a model answer

“I work as a driver for a bus company, and I like my job.”

5 · Write — Your Task

✍️ Write about your job or your studies: your title or subject and place, three things you do in a normal day, the people around you, one thing you like, and one thing that is difficult.

Goal: 2 paragraphs, 8–10 sentences · Length: 90–120 words

  • Open with job + place in one line.
  • Show the day with task verbs, not adjectives.
  • End with the honest balance: hard part + good part.

I work as a … / I am a …I work in / at …My day starts at …I like my job because …The hard part is …

6 · Check — Self-Check

Work through your checklist honestly, then run the Self-Check. It counts words and sentences and spots mechanical points — it does not grade your English. You are the editor.

Read a model answer for the task

I am a student at a college in Boston, and I study computer science. My classes start at 9, and I spend most afternoons in the library or the computer lab. I study with two friends, and we help each other before tests.

The work is not easy — math is my hardest subject. But I love building small programs and seeing them work. One day, I want to make apps that help people learn.

7 · Improve & Rewrite

Weak version — rewrite it in your notebook first, then compare:

I work like teacher. My job is good. I teach kids. The school is nice. I like.

See an improved version

I work as a teacher in a primary school in Austin. I teach twenty children, and my day is full of songs, stories, and questions. The work is noisy and tiring, but when a child reads a whole page alone for the first time, it is the best feeling in the world.
