Emma is new at school and feels shy — then a girl named Julia says hello. · Level A1 · about 2 minutes
The whole story read aloud by a real voice.
Emma is a new student at a school in Boston. Today is her first day at the new school. She is a little shy, and she feels nervous. She does not know the other students, and she does not have a friend here.
In the morning, Emma walks into her classroom and sits down. A girl sits next to her. The girl has a friendly smile. She says, “Hello! My name is Julia. What is your name?”
“My name is Emma,” Emma says quietly. “I am new here. This is my first day.” Julia smiles again. “Welcome to our school, Emma!” she says. Emma feels happy and not so nervous now.
At lunch time, Emma sits alone at a table. Julia comes with her lunch box and sits next to Emma. “Can I sit with you?” she asks. “Yes, please!” Emma says with a big smile.
They eat lunch together. Julia has a sandwich and an apple. Emma has rice and chicken. They talk about their families and their favorite books. They laugh a lot. Lunch is fun today!
After school, Emma walks home. She has a big smile on her face. “Mom, I have a new friend!” she tells her mother. “Her name is Julia.” Boston is a new city, but now it feels like home.
