Interview Practice: Your Hometown and Future Plans
Six interview questions about your hometown and your plans for the future — a favorite topic in speaking tests and friendly interviews alike. · B2 · Interview

How to practice: answer each question out loud in 30–45 seconds. Record one full round and listen for one thing to improve — not ten.
Q: Where is your hometown, and what is it like?
Q: What do people usually do for fun there?
Q: Has your hometown changed much in the last ten years?
Q: Would you like to live there in the future? Why or why not?
Q: What are your plans for the next few years?
Q: If you could live anywhere in the United States, where would you choose?

Your task
Answer each question in 45 to 60 seconds and record the full set in one session. For hometown questions, use this model structure: give the place, describe its character in one line, add one specific detail (food, weather, a famous street), then your personal feeling — for example: “I’m from Austin. It’s a lively city that’s famous for its live music. On weekends, everyone seems to be outside — at food trucks, parks, or concerts by the river. I love the energy, although the summers get incredibly hot.” Note how the answer mixes facts and feelings; copy that balance in your own answers.
Coach tips
- Compare past and present with “used to”: “It used to be much quieter” upgrades any hometown answer.
- Future plans sound natural with “I’m hoping to…” and “I’d love to…” instead of only “I will.”
- Give one vivid detail per answer — a food, a street, a season. Details are what listeners remember.
