2-Minute Challenge

Two minutes with 15 seconds to prepare — presentation territory. The skill is ARCHITECTURE: hook, three points with signposts, one story or example, and a landing line. Breathe at the commas; the clock is kinder than it looks. · Speak for 120 seconds · 15 seconds to prepare

How it works

  1. Choose a prompt below.
  2. Prepare for 15 seconds — plan ideas, not sentences.
  3. Press Start and speak until the timer ends. Keep going — silence is the only real mistake.
  4. Record yourself (below) so you can assess honestly.

Should everyone learn a second language? Let me give you three reasons — and the short answer is yes. First and foremost, it changes your brain's options: every language is a door into jobs, films, friendships, and jokes that simply do not exist in translation. Second, it teaches empathy in a way nothing else does. The first time you struggle to order coffee in another language, you become permanently kinder to every foreigner in your own country — that lesson alone is worth the grammar. And third — consider this — language learning is the cheapest time machine there is: a few hundred words, and you can read another century, another culture, from the inside. I still remember the first joke I understood in a second language — I laughed about ten seconds late, alone in my kitchen, and felt ridiculously proud. Now, the honest objection: is it easy? No. It takes years of small, sometimes embarrassing effort, and most of us will never sound native. Adults are busy, and apps alone won't save you. But which brings me to my final point: the goal was never perfection. Nobody needs you to sound like a news anchor. The goal is connection — one real conversation with one real person who would otherwise be a stranger. And connection, in any accent, at any level, is worth two minutes of anybody's day. Thank you.
