The Shadowing Studio — Train Like an Interpreter
C1 · Shadowing · The complete protocol: blind listen → mark → shadow ×3 → hide text → record & check
Shadowing is the closest thing pronunciation training has to a full workout: you speak WITH the model voice, half a second behind it, copying its rhythm, reductions, linking, and melody exactly. Interpreters train this way. Fifteen focused minutes beats an hour of casual repetition.
Step 1 — Notice
- Lag: about half a second behind the voice — close enough to borrow its rhythm.
- Copy melody and reductions, not just words.
- Text is scaffolding: use it, then hide it.
- Short daily sessions compound: 10–15 minutes is plenty.
Step 2 — Listen
AI-generated American voice. Natural first, then slow. Listen as many times as you need.
Honestly, I thought the meeting went better than expected.
Warm-up line — shadow it before the main set.
Step 4 — Repeat & Record
Say each model out loud, right after the voice. Then record yourself saying the target line: Honestly, I thought the meeting went better than expected.
Record yourself, play it back, and compare with the model. Recordings stay in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Step 5 — Compare & Self-Check
Play your recording from Step 4. Then play the model again. No scores — just honest ears. Tick what you truly did:
Step 6 — Shadow
The text starts hidden. Listen first, then reveal it, then speak with the voice — same rhythm, half a second behind.
Honestly, I thought the meeting went better than expected.
If we move the deadline, we'll need to cut something else.
That's a fair question — let me think about it for a second.
You know what? Let's just try it and see what happens.
