At the Café: Ordering with Confidence
You are at a small café in Boston and the server comes to your table. Practice ordering a drink and a snack, and asking about the bill, just like a local. · A2 · Role-Play

How to practice: first listen to the whole dialogue. Then play BOTH roles out loud — or take one role and answer the other from memory. When it flows, record the full dialogue below.
A Hi there! What can I get for you today?
B Hi! Can I get a medium coffee, please?
A Sure. Would you like milk or sugar with that?
B Just a little milk, please. No sugar.
A Got it. Anything to eat?
B Yes, I’ll have a blueberry muffin, please.
A Great choice. Would you like it warmed up?
B Yes, please. That sounds good.
A Okay, one medium coffee with milk and a warm blueberry muffin.
B Perfect. How much is that?
A That’ll be eight fifty, please.
B Here you go. Thank you so much!
The full dialogue with real voices. Listen first, then take your role.
Record yourself, play it back, and compare with the model. Recordings stay in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Your task
Record yourself playing both parts: A (the server) and B (the customer). Then play B again from memory and change the order — pick a different drink and a different snack.
Coach tips
- Stress the key words: COFFEE, MILK, MUFFIN. Let the little words stay small.
- Link words together: “Can I get a” sounds like “C’n I gedda” in fast speech.
- Smile when you say the polite lines — your voice really does sound friendlier.
