Doctor: Good afternoon, Chris. What brings you in today?
Chris: Hi, Doctor. My right knee has been hurting for about two weeks.
Doctor: I see. Did the pain start after a specific injury?
Chris: Not really. I’ve been training for a marathon, and it started after a long run.
Doctor: Does it hurt when you climb stairs or only when you run?
Chris: Mostly when I run, but stairs have started to bother me too.
Doctor: The good news is that nothing feels torn. It’s most likely runner’s knee from overuse.
Doctor: I’d like you to rest for ten days and ice the knee twice a day.
Chris: Can I still swim or ride a bike?
Doctor: Yes, swimming is fine, but avoid running until the pain is completely gone.
Doctor: If it still hurts in two weeks, we’ll order an MRI.
