Four questions, one theme. For each: hear the question, answer in ~45 seconds using the recorder below, then compare with the model and run the checklist.

Opinion

Question 1

Some people say it's better to have a few close friends than many casual friends. What do you think?

Useful phrases: I agree that..., because... ยท You can count on... ยท In the end, ...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

I agree that a few close friends are better, because real friendship requires time and trust. With close friends, you can share problems honestly and count on support when life gets difficult. A wide circle of acquaintances is pleasant for parties, of course, but those relationships often stay shallow. In the end, two friends who truly know you are worth more than fifty who barely do.

Experience

Question 2

Tell me about a time when a friend helped you in an important way.

Useful phrases: A moment I'll never forget was... ยท Even though she had her own... ยท It's about showing up when...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

A moment I'll never forget was during my final exams, when I became sick a week before the tests. My friend Sara visited every evening and reviewed her notes with me, even though she had her own exams to prepare for. Thanks to her, I passed everything comfortably. That experience showed me that true friendship isn't about fun times; it's about showing up when things are hard.

Explanation

Question 3

Why do some friendships last for decades while others fade away quickly?

Useful phrases: Lasting friendships survive because... ยท Friends drift apart when... ยท The strongest factor is...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

I believe lasting friendships survive because both people keep making an effort, even when life becomes busy. Friends drift apart when contact depends only on convenience, like working in the same office. Shared values matter too: if people grow in completely different directions, conversation becomes difficult. But honestly, the strongest factor is simply staying in touch regularly, even with short messages, so the connection never fully cools.

Comparison

Question 4

Do you find it easier to make friends online or in person? Why?

Useful phrases: For me, ... is easier, because... ยท Face to face ยท In my experience, ...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

For me, making friends in person is easier, because trust grows faster face to face. You can read someone's expressions and humor immediately, and shared activities give you something natural to talk about. Online friendships can certainly become real, and they're great for niche interests. But in my experience, online connections often stay at the level of chatting, while in-person friendships develop into actual support.
