Preference

Question 1

How do you usually like to spend your free time, and why do you enjoy it?

Useful phrases: In my free time, I usually... ยท It clears my mind because... ยท For me, the best hobbies are...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

In my free time, I usually go hiking or take long walks with friends. I enjoy it because it clears my mind completely; after hours of sitting and studying, moving outdoors feels like a reset. Also, hiking is inexpensive, and you can do it almost anywhere. For me, the best hobbies are the ones that give you energy instead of just passing the time.

Opinion

Question 2

Some people think hobbies are a waste of time because they don't earn money. What is your view?

Useful phrases: I completely disagree, because... ยท Besides, ... ยท Even if..., ...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

I completely disagree with that idea, because it measures everything by money. Hobbies reduce stress, and lower stress means better health and better work. Besides, many hobbies develop useful skills; photography, for example, can become a career later, and team sports teach cooperation. Even if a hobby never earns a single dollar, a balanced life is simply a happier life, and that's valuable by itself.

Experience

Question 3

Tell me about a hobby you tried but eventually gave up. Why did you stop?

Useful phrases: At first, ... ยท Meanwhile, ... ยท Looking back, ...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

I tried learning the guitar a couple of years ago, but I eventually gave up. At first I was excited and practiced every day, but progress was much slower than I expected, and my fingers honestly hurt. Meanwhile, my studies got busier, so practice always came last. Looking back, I quit mainly because I wanted quick results. If I tried again, I'd set smaller, more patient goals.

Comparison

Question 4

Do you prefer spending your free time alone or with other people? Why?

Useful phrases: It depends on..., but... ยท That being said, ... ยท So overall, I'd say...

Model answer โ€” open AFTER recording yourself

It depends on my mood, but most of the time I prefer being with other people. Shared activities, like playing football or cooking with friends, create memories that you simply can't get alone. That being said, I also protect some quiet time for reading, because it helps me recharge. So overall, I'd say social activities come first for me, with a little solitude for balance.
