Interview: City vs Countryside
Four questions, one theme. For each: hear the question, answer in ~45 seconds using the recorder below, then compare with the model and run the checklist.
Question 1
Would you prefer to live in a big city or in the countryside? Why?
Useful phrases: At this stage of my life, ... ยท Mainly because of opportunity ยท Matter more to me than...
Model answer โ open AFTER recording yourself
At this stage of my life, I prefer the city, mainly because of opportunity. Cities offer more jobs, better universities, and hospitals you can actually trust in an emergency. I also enjoy the energy: restaurants, events, and people from everywhere. The countryside is calmer and cleaner, and I might choose it later, but right now the city's possibilities matter more to me than peace and quiet.
Question 2
Some people say life in the countryside is healthier than life in the city. Do you agree?
Useful phrases: Generally yes, because... ยท The basic conditions favor... ยท A genuine advantage
Model answer โ open AFTER recording yourself
Generally yes, because the basic conditions favor health there. The air is cleaner, the pace is slower, and people often eat fresher, locally grown food. Daily life also involves more natural movement, like walking and physical work. Cities offer better hospitals, of course, but that's treatment after illness. For preventing illness in daily life, I believe the countryside has a genuine advantage.
Question 3
Tell me about a place in the countryside or a city that you visited and really liked.
Useful phrases: I still think about it often ยท Time seemed to slow down ยท Accept as normal

I once spent a week in a small mountain village, and I still think about it often. There was no noise except a river and birds, and the nights were so dark that the stars looked unreal. The local family who hosted us cooked simple food from their garden, and time seemed to slow down completely. That visit taught me how much noise city people accept as normal.
Question 4
Many young people leave rural areas to find work in cities, leaving villages emptier and older. How could this problem be reduced?
Useful phrases: The most promising solution is... ยท For example, ... ยท They leave because opportunity left first
Model answer โ open AFTER recording yourself
I think the most promising solution is bringing work to the villages instead of expecting people to leave. Remote jobs, for example, now allow many professionals to live anywhere with good internet. Governments can also support small rural businesses and improve schools and clinics, so families see a future there. People rarely leave places they love by choice; they leave because opportunity left first.
