Subject: Request to switch from BIO 210 (Section A) to the evening section
Date: Monday, September 8
Dear Professor Alvarez,
I am writing because I have just been offered a part-time job at the campus bookstore, and my Tuesday and Thursday shifts would conflict with your morning section of Biology 210. I would like to switch to Section B, which meets in the evening, if a place is available. I have already bought the textbook and completed the first week's reading, so I do not want to fall behind. Please let me know whether the switch is possible.
Thank you for your time,
Dana Whitfield

Dear Dana,
Section B is currently full, but enrollment usually changes during the first two weeks. I have placed your name first on the waiting list, and the registrar will email you automatically if a seat opens. Until then, please keep attending Section A so that you do not miss any material. One warning: the deadline to change sections without paying a $25 fee is Friday, September 19. Also note that Section B uses a different lab time — Thursday evening instead of Wednesday afternoon — so check that the lab fits your work schedule as well.
Best wishes,
Prof. Alvarez

DEPARTMENT NOTICE — BIOLOGY (posted September 10)
Five additional seats have been added to BIO 210 Section B. Students on the waiting list will be contacted in order. All section changes must be completed through the student portal by September 19.
