Listening: At the Cafe (A2–B1)

Step 1 — Listen without the transcript. Step 2 — Answer. Step 3 — Reveal the transcript. Then expressions, reductions, vocabulary, and shadowing.

Step 2 — Comprehension

Step 3–6 — Transcript, expressions, reductions, vocabulary (open after answering)

Tom: Hi Julia. Nice to see you again. Can I get you a coffee?
Julia: Thanks, Tom. I'd love a cappuccino. And maybe a piece of cake.
Tom: Great idea. I'm hungry too.

Reductions: 'Can I' sounds like 'kuh-NY' in fast speech; 'I'd love' = I would love — a warm, polite yes.

Vocabulary: get you a coffee = buy/bring you one · a piece of cake = one slice (also an idiom: something very easy!)

Steps 7–9 — Shadow and speak

Play the dialogue again and copy the voices exactly — same speed, same music. Then answer out loud: What do you usually order at a cafe?
